This is a professionally run tournament, right?
Wrong! This is a bunch of people who like old games getting together. We'll provide the venue, the tables and some terrain. We'll hook you up with an opponent if you haven't got one. We'll be smiley and friendly the whole day. If your opponent is a no-show we'll try and get you a game. But if your opponent is frustrating, cheating or smells bad then you're on your own I'm afraid.
But you've organised something like this before, haven't you?
Nope
Are there any rules at all?
Don't Be a Dick.
What's this about a free miniature?
We'll have a limited edition Oldhammer-esque miniature to give away to every player, just to say thanks for coming and as a memento of the day. There will also be lucky door prizes that we'll be giving away. Free stuff = cool, right?
Can my friends and I play together?
Of course! When you register let us know who's in your group and what you're playing, and we'll assign you a table.
Do we all have to register if a group of us is booking a table?
Only one person needs to book the table - you don't all have to. But please let us know when you book how many people will be playing on the table.
None of my friends play Oldhammer games. What should I do?
Get new friends. If you can't manage that in time, no problem. We'll match up people wanting to play WFB 3rd and 4th editions, and Rogue Trader and Warhammer 40K 2nd edition. Just book a spot at the appropriate table. If you want to play something else, check out the Facebook group for the event and post something there. If you can find an opponent you can then book a table for your game.
I want to agree points values with my opponent - how do I get in touch with them?
When you register we'll ask you for your email address and mobile number. We'll also ask you to tick a box if you're happy for us to share your details with your opponent. Just click the box and we'll email you both with each others' email addresses.
All the tables for the game I want to play are booked. Does this mean I miss out?
Hopefully not! Send us an email at [email protected] and let us know what game you're wanting. If there's enough demand for it we might be able to reassign a table from a less popular game or add an extra couple of tables.
Can I play all day?
Yes. Just book an morning and an afternoon slot. Easy!
Can I play with unpainted miniatures?
Alright, let's have a chat. Now, we're not going to turn you away if you turn up with bare lead or plastic. But do remember that this is Oldhammer, and part of what most people like about the scene is the immersive experience of playing with painted figures and interesting terrain. You don't have to paint to a high standard, but you and your opponents will get more out of the day if your army is painted.
Can I play with modern miniatures?
Sure, why not.
I haven't played WFB 3rd ed in 20 years but I'll be bringing my 3,000 point army. Cool, huh?
We're not going to tell you how to do your Oldhammer. But do think about what sort of a game you'll be able to play in three or so hours, and about how much flicking through rulebooks you think your opponent can handle.
My game's finished early. Will I just be hanging around being bored?
No! We're aiming to have board games available that people are welcome to pick up and play. And of course you can give other players unsolicited tactical advice, admire old miniatures or check out the Buy Sell Swap.
I'm sorry, did you say 'Buy Sell Swap'?
Blind Pig will have its regular BSS on the same day as our event. You're welcome to bring your surplus hobby stuff and try to flog it off to an unsuspecting punter. I mean, make someone's day with a good deal. There's no charge if you're selling, except if you're trying to move commercial quantities (in which case contact the club direct). If you want more information about how the BSS works, contact the club direct via its Facebook page.
Can I get food and drink at the venue?
The club has chips, drinks and pizza slices for sale.
